C4 hires Shine exec for docs

Channel 4 in the UK has appointed a Shine TV executive as a commissioning editor for documentaries.

Charlotte Desai

Charlotte Desai will report to Nick Mirsky, C4’s head of documentaries, and will be tasked with finding new ideas for the broadcaster’s 21.00 slot.

These include multipart formats and documentaries with the potential to become returnable strands and more focused series and films that capture the concerns and preoccupations of contemporary Britain.

Desai’s remit will also include new ideas for 22.00, particularly those with the potential to develop in the same way as the department’s First Dates series.

Mirksy said her job would be “all about finding the next generation of high-impact factual TV on Channel 4.”

Desai joins from Shine TV, where her focus was primarily on generating new business and winning commissions across a range of genres, including documentaries and factual formats. Prior to that, she worked for the BBC, where her credits included the Trouble at the Top, and as a commissioning editor at satcaster Sky.

In related news, C4 has ordered a second season of Extreme Cake Makers (30×30′) from UK prodco Boomerang.
