“By the third week of airing Burka Avenger, there was so much positive attention that we were able to get financing for season two,” Aaron Haroon Rashid, founder of the Islamabad-based prodco, told C21.

Geo TV in Pakistan airs the first 13×22′ season, thought to be one of the first animated productions made wholly in Pakistan.

It follows a teacher who doesn’t normally wear a burka but uses one to hide her identity while fighting evil alongside three young children, with the use of books and pens.

The main goals of the series are “to make people laugh, to entertain and to send out positive social messages,” its creators said.

Meanwhile, international distributors and broadcasters continue to circle the toon, which is being pitched here in Cannes by its creator, Rashid.

“They love the fact it’s about girl power with a strong female character. The countries with large Muslim populations are very interested, and at the same time, there are countries within Europe, such as Germany, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain, that are very interested as well,” Rashid said.
