UK-based Marcella producer Buccaneer Media has picked up rights to adapt two Rose Tremain novels for the small screen.

Bafta winner Lynn Horsford (Boy A) will join Buccaneer’s Andrea Dewsbery and Tony Wood as executive producers on The Road Home, for which Tremain will also be screenwriter. Wood and Dewsbery will also exec produce Tremain’s latest novel The Gustav Sonata.

The Road Home centres on a middle-aged widower who travels from his small Eastern European village to London on the hunt for work to support his family back home.

Meanwhile, The Gustav Sonata follows a young boy growing up in a Swiss town and his intense friendship with a talented Jewish pianist. Buccaneer, which was behind ITV and Netflix drama Marcella, will be showcasing both projects at Mipcom in Cannes next week.

Buccaneer was set up in 2013 as a partnership between Wood, whose credits include The Only Way is Essex and Hollyoaks, and Canada’s Cineflix Studios. Dewsbery joined earlier this year.
