Buccaneer powers Robot spin-off

Buccaneer Media, the fledgling London-based prodco created by drama producer Tony Wood, is to create a spin-off TV series based on UK sci-fi adventure movie Robot Overlords.

An agreement has been reached with Piers Tempest and Jo Bamford’s Tempo Productions, producers of the original movie. Buccaneer Media will create a TV series set in a universe parallel to the original, featuring a group of survivors following the invasion of Earth by alien robots.

Jon Wright, director of the movie, announced the adaptation at a press conference at the MCM London Comic Con event.

Wood, former creative director at Lime Pictures, has overseen both scripted and unscripted TV brands such as Coronation Street, Desi Rascals and House of Anubis, the live-action kids’ series for Nickelodeon. He launched Buccaneer as a joint venture with producer and distributor Cineflix Media last April.

The original Robot Overlords movie cast included Gillian Anderson, Sir Ben Kingsley, Callan McAuliffe, James Tarpey and Ella Hunt. The title and cast for the series are yet to be announced.
