Bresaz upped at AMC as Goldberg goes

US channel operator AMC Networks has promoted Marco Bresaz to the role of executive VP of nonfiction and alternative programming, replacing Eliot Goldberg who is stepping down.

Goldberg has led nonfiction and alternative programming at AMC Networks Entertainment Group for AMC, Sundance TV and BBC America for six years, since joining from fellow cablenet CMT.

His slate includes Ride with Norman Reedus, James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction, Eli Roth’s History of Horror, Robert Kirkman’s Secret History Of Comics, Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America and a move into true crime documentaries on Sundance TV with Cold Blooded: The Clutter Family Murders, Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle, and The Preppy Murder: Death In Central Park.

“Coming off the critically acclaimed Preppy Murder docuseries, which was a very personal project for me, and a string of successful premium documentary and unscripted series, it felt like the right time to make a transition,” said Goldberg.

“As much as I have absolutely adored programming for these incredible brands at AMC Networks, I am excited to explore new opportunities in this rapidly changing media landscape.”

At CMT, Goldberg helped develop original series including Bayou Billionaires, Big Texas Heat and the reworking of Dog the Bounty Hunter, called Dog and Beth: On the Hunt.

Prior to joining the channel in 2011, he was senior VP of development and original programming at TV Land, where he oversaw reality series including High School Reunion and Harry Loves Lisa.

He also spent time as executive VP of programming and development for Ryan Seacrest Productions, executive producing Keeping Up with the Kardashians, among others.

Bresaz joined AMC Networks in 2010 to work for AMC’s sister net Sundance TV. He developed Sundance originals Push Girls and The Writers’ Room as the channel’s VP of original programming and development before switching to join Goldberg’s team at AMC as VP of unscripted in 2013.

Prior to that he had stints at TV Land, Spike TV and the daytime department at ABC.

The department also includes Kelly Nash, who was recently promoted to VP of nonfiction and alternative programming and oversees the West Coast team.
