Boomerang has taken Peanuts from FranceTV Distribution

US children’s channel Boomerang will become the first English-language net to air the new French version of Peanuts, a kids’ show featuring iconic US cartoon characters Charlie Brown and Snoopy.

The deal was struck with FranceTV Distribution, the commercial arm of French pubcaster France Télévisions, and will see the shorts airing on Turner Broadcasting-owned Boomerang with promotional crossover on Cartoon Network and its app.

The 500 shorts are based on the iconic Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz and are currently airing in more than 20 territories, including on France 3, Discovery LatAm and Disney Korea.

The show was produced by the French studio Normaal for France Télévisions, along with Peanuts Worldwide.

“Having Boomerang as the everyday TV home of Peanuts for the US is an important piece of our kids-focused content strategy,” said Leigh Anne Brodsky, MD of Peanuts Worldwide and Iconix Entertainment.

“Today’s kids will be able to get their daily dose of Peanuts from the leader in kids’ entertainment.”

The deal comes as feature film The Peanuts Movie, from Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios, edges towards its global release later this fall.
