Blumenfeld launches own indie

Former ITV Studios director of formats Remy Blumenfeld has set up his own production company and already has a commission from BBC4 in the bag.

Blumenfeld is launching Thinking Violets, which will focus on developing factual and entertainment programmes.

The new company does not intend to produce wholly in-house but will use Blumenfeld’s established relationships with showrunners and other prodcos to partner on projects.

The London-based firm’s first commission is The Man Who Shot Beautiful Women (1×60′), for BBC4. Produced by Blumenfeld, directed by Nick Watson and executive produced by Mike Poole, the doc is a copro with BBC Bristol.

A development deal has also been signed with Discovery and another project is being worked on with Simon Fuller’s XIX in Los Angeles.

Blumenfeld left ITV Studios in 2010 and has since been advising TF1 Productions and executive producing one-off projects including The Dark Matter of Love, which will air on BBC4 later this year.

I’m not abandoning formatted entertainment completely, but I’m more excited by ideas with a sense of intelligent fun, than by a particular form or genre.”
