Blaze lights first original

Flipping Bangers

MIPCOM: A+E Networks has commissioned the first original series for its free-to-air channel Blaze in the UK: a coproduction with French documentary channel RMC Decouverte.

UK producer Just Might Productions and distributor TCB Media Rights are coproducing motoring series Flipping Bangers with the two channels.

The 10×60’ series will debut on Blaze in the UK early next year, following petrol-heads Will Trickett and Gus Gregory as they hunt for neglected cars they can fix and flip for a profit. Any losses incurred by their flipping come out of their own pockets.

Gregory is a motoring photographer with a long-term passion for cars and motorbikes while Trickett is a designer and boat builder who has previously featured on Man Made Home on Channel 4 and Ultimate Wheels on History. Elena Anniballi, director for Blaze, and Dan Korn, VP of programming at A+E Networks UK, commissioned the series.

A+E Networks launched Blaze as its first free-to-air network in the territory in September 2016.

Dan Allum from Just Might Productions is executive producer of Flipping Bangers and previously created the Wheeler Dealers franchise.

Paul Heaney, CEO of TCB, which was bought by Kew Media last week, said: “As soon as Blaze got going we were keen to work with them to see what their programming needs were.

“Along with our friends in France, RMC Decouverte, we developed a show with Dan at Just Might Productions, using all of their experience to get a potentially long-running car series underway.”
