Blackpills gets New Form’s Cold

MIPCOM: Fledgling French streamer Blackpills has acquired Cold, a drama series produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s digital studio New Form.

Cold: spreading through Europe

Blackpills, which has been bolstering its offering over recent months, has picked up pan-European rights to the youth-orientated thriller from distributor Keshet International (KI).

The arrangement will see Cold become available in 15 territories across Europe including France, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Netherlands, UK and Ireland. The show was recently acquired by TV2 Norway’s VoD service and TVP Poland for its main channel.

Cold was created by filmmaker and video blogger Emily Diana Ruth and follows the story of a 16-year-old who finds out her real father is in jail for killing the mother she never knew.

Patrick Holzman, CEO of Blackpills, said the show “perfectly embodies our promise to offer millennials strong short-form digital content with ambitious storylines and great execution.”

JC Cangilla, chief operating officer at New Form, added that his company and KI were “demonstrating how premium digital content is both creatively and economically viable for international platforms and audiences.”

Blackpills’ series already include Playground from French veteran Luc Besson, which sees a teenage girl exploring her parents’ death, and Pillowtalk, which is being executive produced by Sharon Horgan and follows the life of a bachelor.

The company, based in Paris, LA and Tel Aviv, launched its mobile-focused service in the US, Canada and across Europe earlier this year.
