Black Jesus comes to Adult Swim

Adult Swim, the latenight US animation block that shares cable channel space with Cartoon Network, has greenlit a new scripted comedy titled Black Jesus.

The half-hour live-action series, from writer/producer Aaron McGruder (The Boondocks, Red Tails), finds Jesus living in present day Compton, California, on a daily mission to spread love and kindness throughout the neighbourhood with the help of his loyal group of downtrodden followers.

McGruder, who created the series, will serve as exec producer through his 5 Mutts Productions along with writer/director Mike Clattenberg (Trailer Park Boys), Norman Aladjem and John Bravakis.

Production has begun on the series, which premieres later this year.
