Beta steps onto Pina’s Pier

Germany’s Beta Film has picked up the international distribution rights to Spanish thriller Embarcadero – The Pier, which is showrun by Álex Pina.

The series is being produced by Atresmedia Studios in association with Pina’s Vancouver Pictures for Telfonica’s Spanish pay TV platform Movistar+.

Pina has previously produced La Casa de Papel, known outside Spain as Money Heist and recently greenlit by global streaming giant Netflix for a third season.

The streamer recently tied Pina to an overall deal that will see him produce for Netflix exclusively through Vancouver Media.

Embarcadero – The Pier, meanwhile, is currently shooting in Valencia until the end of the year, with Money Heist lead Alvaro Morte starring.

The plot follows high-profile architect Alexandra who, though already shattered by the suicide of her husband Oscar, is even more devastated when she finds out he had been leading a double life with another woman, Veronica, and their child.

Atresmedia Studios is the first production arm to be created by one of Spain’s broadcasting groups. The company signed a first-look deal with Netflix earlier this week.
