Beta picks up Pleasure Principle

Germany’s Beta Film has acquired international distribution rights to forthcoming crime drama The Pleasure Principle, labelled as the first international coproduction between three Eastern European countries.

Beta is a co-financing partner on the 10-hour show, which recently entered post-production after shooting in Warsaw, Prague and on the Black Sea coast in Ukraine.

The Pleasure Principle is being coproduced by Apple Film Productions (AFP), Canal+ Poland, Czech TV and Star Media in association with Beta and is helmed by director Dariusz Jablonski (Photographer), the founder of AFP.

The series stars Karel Roden (The Bourne Supremacy) and Malgorzata Buczkowska alongside Stipe Erceg (The Baader Meinhof Complex) and Sergey Strelnikow, with Maciej Maciejewski (The Cop) writing.

The story follows police investigators from Ukraine, Poland and the Czech Republic as they attempt to overcome their differences to partner up on a cross-border case. The trail leads to shady businessmen, lawyers for sale, corrupt politicians, professional killers and traces of a common past.
