Berlanti hires ex-AMC, Fox exec

Berlanti Productions, the TV and film prodco founded by Greg Berlanti, has brought in an experienced former AMC and Fox executive as president following the promotion of Sarah Schechter.

Schechter is stepping up to the newly created role of chairwoman and partner after six years as president. She will be replaced by former AMC Networks and Fox president David Madden.

Madden was most recently president of programming at entertainment networks for AMC, where he oversaw all programme development and production for AMC, BBC America, IFC and Sundance TV channels, as well as AMC Studios.

He left in August last year as part of a reshuffle. Prior to that, he worked for nearly two decades at Fox, rising to president of entertainment of Fox Broadcasting Co after having previously served as president of Fox Television Studios.

Berlanti Productions’ television business is based at Warner Bros Television Group under an exclusive multi-year overall deal that runs through to 2024.

Series on Berlanti Productions’ current slate include DC drama Superman & Lois for The CW, Green Lantern and Strange Adventures for HBO Max.

Berlanti said: “Sarah is simply the best at what she does. I am inspired by her leadership, passion, smarts and vision every day. I’m grateful for everything she has done for this company, and I’m beyond thrilled all of our shows, and everyone who works so hard on them, will continue to benefit from her immense talent for years to come.

“I’ve admired Dave since we first worked together for his creative insight and his warm and beloved leadership style. Sarah and I couldn’t be happier that he has chosen to join us as we continue to build the TV side of our company.”
