Belgium’s Greetings welcomes sixth deal

Greetings From 19XX transports celebs and their families to the past

Belgian factual entertainment format Greetings From 19XX has clocked up its sixth local production deal, this time in French-speaking Belgium.

The format first launched in 2017 on VTM in Dutch-speaking Belgium but has now been picked up for a series by RTL TVI in the French-speaking region of the country.

The deal, announced today by distributor Be Entertainment, comes soon after VTM commissioned a sixth season of the show based on the format developed and produced by Antwerp prodco Lecter Media.

Internationally, local adaptations have been produced in the Netherlands (two seasons for RTL4), Sweden (two seasons for TV4), Germany (one season for ZDF) and TV2 in Denmark, which will air its third series later this year.

Each episode of the Greetings From 19XX format, described by Be as “uplifting retrotainment,” sees a celebrity and their family experiencing a family weekend as if it were taking place in the year the celeb was 12 years old.

“Nostalgia is a universal language that touches the same chord in every culture and provides a kind of certainty in these uncertain times,” said Ben Pays, executive producer at Lecter Media.
