Beers confirmed atop Fremantle US

UPDATED: Reality television veteran Thom Beers has been named FremantleMedia North America’s CEO.

Thom Beers

Beers replaces Cecile Frot-Coutaz, who has moved to the UK to run Fremantle as its new company-wide chief exec. She replaced Tony Cohen, who stepped down after 12 years in the top seat.

Beers is best known for his work on US cable reality hits such as Discovery’s Deadliest Catch and Monster House, Ice Road Truckers for History, TruTV’s Black Gold and A&E’s Storage Wars.

Fremantle acquired three-quarters of Beers’ company Original Productions three years ago.

The appointment was first reported in the US overnight but neither Fremantle nor Beers could be contacted for comment before UK press time today.

However, the company has now confirmed the news. Beers will become CEO of FremantleMedia North America (FMNA) from September 1, reporting to Frot-Coutaz, who said he was the perfect choice for the post.

“Thom’s multi-award winning combination of experience, innovation and expertise has made Original a dominant force on US primetime cable networks, and as an existing member of the FremantleMedia family he has a deep knowledge of our people, our company and our operations around the world,” she said.

Beers added: “FMNA has an unrivalled position in the largest television market in the world, creating some of the best loved, most successful television shows on the planet. Working closely in all areas with COO Donna Redier Linsk, we hope to strategically grow and expand our reach.”
