BBCWW sews up Danish deal

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) has closed its first format deal with Danish terrestrial broadcaster TV2 Fri, for a local version of an arts and craft competition show.

Sewing Bee will be produced by Metronome Productions, part of the recently rebranded Shine Nordics group, and will debut on the Danish channel this autumn.

The format, from The Great Bake Off creator Love Productions, follows a nationwide competition to find the country’s best amateur sewer who must impress in a series of time-limited challenges.

It is distributed internationally by BBCWW, which has also sold the UK version to the Danish broadcaster.

Sewing Bee is already being remade in France by BBCWW Productions France for M6, while local versions are also planned for Norway’s NRK and Swedish network Sjuan.

In related news, BBCWW’s India-based production arm is continuing to ramp up its output for young adults after being commissioned to produce a pair of scripted series.

MTV India has ordered MTV Fanaah: An Impossible Love Story, a supernatural drama about power and love between five teenagers, and MTV Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan, which follows young people starting college. Both have been slated to debut this month.

BBCWW already produces several shows aimed at young adults for Indian networks, including Yeh Hai Ashiqui, a one-hour weekly drama targeting 18-24s for Disney network Bindass.

Meanwhile, BBCWW’s soon-to-launch channel BBC First has acquired the upcoming fourth season of crime series Death in Paradise.

The show, produced by Red Planet Pictures, will join other series including Call the Midwife and Peaky Blinders on the drama-skewing channel, which is set to launch on Foxtel in Australia on August 3.
