BBCWW reveals Mip slate, Keshet deal

The commercial arm of the BBC has sealed its first format deal with Israeli broadcaster, producer and distributor Keshet and revealed its formats slate for the forthcoming MipTV.

Keshet is prepping a local Israeli version of BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) format The Great Bake Off, marking the first time the two companies have worked together on a format.

The free-to-air broadcaster will produce an initial 8×90’ run of the series, where members of the public compete in a series of baking challenges, to air in 2016.

Israel is the 17th international territory to commission a version of Bake Off, following BBCWW deals with the likes of Australia’s Nine Network, DR in Denmark, 1+1 in the Ukraine, TV3 in Ireland and Discovery in Italy. A Junior Bake Off spin off also airs in Thailand.

The show was originally produced by Love Productions in the UK for BBC2 and the prodco subsequently agreed its own deal for the show with CBS in the US.

BBCWW has also revealed its formats slate ahead of MipTV in Cannes next month, which includes ITV’s new Saturday night entertainment show You’re Back in the Room where five strangers take on a series of simple games while hypnotised. The show was originally created by UK indie Tuesday’s Child.

Daytime quizshow The Edge and art series The Big Painting Challenge are also on the slate along with culinary competition Pressure Cooker. Fast-paced drama Silk leads the scripted formats list.
