BBCWW formats boss exits

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW)’s global formats boss Elin Thomas is one of two execs set to leave the commercial arm of the UK pubcaster, while a production chief is relocating to the US.

Thomas has worked on BBCWW formats including the Great British Bake Off and Sewing Bee, with her decision to depart coming after the firm’s geographical realignment that started in 2012.

BBCWW head of sport and global entertainment Danny O’Toole is also set to leave the company, but will first work as a global sales consultant for the firm over the next six months.

He previously headed up the distribution of programming from a range of BBC sporting events including the London Marathon and the Grand National.

Meanwhile, BBCWW’s exec VP of international production Jorge Bachmaier is moving to the US, where he will continue to work on international formats and production partnerships while supporting the firm’s Los Angeles-based production unit.

The changes are the latest amongst BBCWW’s ranks, and come after former RTE controller George Dixon joined the firm as editorial director last month.

BBCWW has also appointed more regional execs, including Ricky Kelehar as BBC America’s new VP of unscripted programming, as the firm hands more production decisions to its regional divisions.
