Two BBC Worldwide Productions execs have launched an LA- and Wales-based prodco to focus on premium drama.

Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner’s Bad Wolf will produce TV and movies for the international market. Its name is a reference to sci-fi series Doctor Who, which the duo helped to relaunch more than a decade ago.

The prodco is being supported by the Welsh government, which believes the firm will attract around £100m (US$155m) to the Welsh economy over the next decade. A number of development agreements are being finalised with US networks and European broadcasters.

Tranter and Gardner are leaving BBCWW Productions after six years, having moved to LA to head up the firm in 2009. They previously worked on shows including Da Vinci’s Demons for Starz and Fox, following a spell overseeing the UK pubcaster’s drama offering.

Gardner, who was senior VP of scripted, has overseen both BBCWW Productions and sibling prodco Adjacent Productions’ scripted slates since 2009.

The firms, part of BBCWW North America, were also behind shows including Life Below Zero and Dancing with the Stars. Matt Forde has been promoted to replace head of productions Tranter, who will leave next month.

Tranter announced her decision to leave in March with the departure of Gardner confirmed earlier this month.
