BBC Studios secures Peruvian first

BBC SHOWCASE: BBC Studios (BBCS) has agreed its first format deal in Peru, selling adaptation rights to a show that seeks to find a country’s most iconic person.

Public broadcaster National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP) has acquired remake rights to UK format Great Britons, which will be known as Grandes Peruanos in Peru and will air on TV Peru and Canal IPe.

The format, which debuted on the BBC in 2002, sees the public nominating and selecting a personality who will be recognised as the greatest individual from their country.

Figures featuring in the Peruvian show will include aviator José Abelardo Quiñones, admiral Miguel Grau, footballer Teófilo Cubillas, writer Cesar Vallejo and musician Chabuca Granda.

The format, which will debut in Peru during the first half of 2020, has been sold into more than 25 countries and is on BBCS’s slate at BBC Studios’ Showcase event in Liverpool.

Other unscripted formats available include wedding planning show My Big Day: Home or Away, social reality show One Hot Summer and quizzer Wonderball.

Yesterday C21 revealed that Denmark’s DR1 would become the first international broadcaster to remake BBC3 show Misfits Like Us (aka Different Like Me), while Polish pay TV operator TVN ordered a local version of BBCS format Trust Me I’m a Doctor.
