BBCS hires chief commercial officer in US

BBC Studios (BBCS) has created a chief commercial officer role at its US arm as part of plans to bolster the brand and its portfolio of IP.

Tara Maitra

Tara Maitra joins BBCS Americas from data exchange platform BDEX, where she was chief revenue officer. Prior to that, she held executive roles at TiVo, Comcast, Primedia and NBC.

In her new role as chief commercial officer at BBCS in New York, Maitra will lead the company’s commercial growth strategy for the US by identifying new revenue-generating opportunities and partnerships. She will also work to amplify the existing licensing, home entertainment and BBC Learning businesses.

In addition, Maitra will support the launch in the US and Canada of BBCS’s forthcoming culture and politics-themed streaming service BBC Select.

Jennifer Ball

Meanwhile, BBCS has also created the new role of senior VP of marketing at its US arm. Jennifer Ball has been hired to fill the position, before which she led an independent consulting company. Ball also previously held exec positions at Promax and Univision.

“Tara and Jennifer will provide strong leadership and direction for a team focused on creating commercial value and building the brand with key clients and our direct-to-consumer offerings. I am confident their respective proven capabilities and entrepreneurial style will move us to the next stage of growth in the market,” said Rebecca Glashow, president of BBCS Americas.
