BBCS exec joins Netflix in APAC

Global streaming giant Netflix has hired a former BBC Studios executive to head its South-East Asia and Australia division.

Myleeta Aga

Myleeta Aga spent 10 years at the BBC where she spearheaded Indian remakes of shows including The Office and Criminal Justice. In 2017, she was promoted to general manager of South-East Asia and India before stepping in as acting executive VP for Asia last July.

Aga left the company last week following the merger of BBC Studios’ Asia, Australia and New Zealand sales divisions. She will join Netflix to lead content for South-East Asia and Australia before the end of 2019, based in Singapore. The news was first reported by The Economic Times in India.

In related news, Netflix is developing a series based on an original story by Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown and her sister Paige Brown.

Produced by Millie Bobby Brown’s PCMA Productions, A Time Lost follows a long-standing feud between two Long Island families which comes to a head when one of their teenage daughters is diagnosed with cancer.

Paige Brown is exec producing with father Robert Brown, while Anna Klassen is attached to adapt the story.

Speaking about the series, the sisters said: “It’s about friendship, family and overcoming obstacles when it feels like the world is pushing you down. It’s been a labour of love, literally.”
