BBCS agrees copro with China’s MIGU Video

MIGU Video ordered BBCS’s Chinese doc One Cup, A Thousand Stories

MIPCOM: BBC Studios (BBCS) and China Mobile’s video platform MIGU Video have struck a coproduction deal for natural history show Animal Impossible.

The 10-part series will examine myths about the animal kingdom from around the world, such as whether spider silk is stronger than steel or whether bulls hate the colour red, and tests them to see whether they are true.

Animal Impossible is being produced by BBCS’s Natural History Unit and coproduced by MIGU Video and BBC Studios Distribution.

The new deal, announced in Cannes this week, follows BBCS’s Chinese documentary One Cup, A Thousand Stories, ordered by MIGU Video. The show, which looks at the part tea plays in Chinese culture, was BBCS’s first directly commissioned project in the country.

In 2018, BBCS closed a volume deal with MIGU Video for over 2,200 hours of content across factual, lifestyle and preschool, reaching more than 856 million of China Mobile’s subscribers,

Kelvin Yau, BBCS’s general manager for Greater China, referred to MIGU Video as an important strategic partner for the group in the region and said it was “working with them to explore coproduction and co-development opportunities.”
