BBC4 bags ‘next Killing’

MIPCOM NEWS: BBC4 in the UK has acquired a pair of foreign-language Scandinavian crime dramas from Germany’s ZDF Enterprises for its 2012 schedule.

The Bridge (10×60’/5×110′) is a coproduction between Denmark’s Nimbus and Shine Group-owned Filmlance of Sweden. It follows a murder investigation after a body is discovered on the Öresund Bridge between Copenhagen and Malmö.

Described as “the next Killing” by Peter Gustafsson, commissioning editor for drama, culture and documentaries at Swedish channel SVT, the show will also air on Denmark’s DR and Norway’s NRK.

Sebastian Bergman (2×100′), meanwhile, has Wallander star Rolf Lassgård as the eponymous and politically incorrect criminal profiler. It is from Swedish prodco Tre Vänner, SVT, ZDF and Network Movie, in association with ZDF Enterprises.

Both shows “are character-based, suspense-filled murder mysteries, with a cinematic atmosphere and style” and “follow in the footsteps of Spiral, Wallander and The Killing,” said Sue Deeks, head of BBC programme acquisition.
