BBC3, RTÉ pursue Offenders series

BBC3 in the UK is partnering with Irish pubcaster RTÉ on a six-part series based on a movie.

The Young Offenders (6×30′) is being produced by Vico Films and carries on the story from the feature film, which debuted last year.

The Young Offenders film follows two inner-city teenagers as they embark on a road trip on stolen bikes in the hope of finding an unrecovered bale of cocaine.

The film’s writer, Peter Foott, is attached to the TV version and will also direct and executive produce, along with Martina Niland (Once, Sing Street).

The show has been commissioned by BBC3 controller Damian Kavanagh, BBC comedy controller Shane Allen and commissioning editor Alex Moody.

Allen said: “Peter has created a very sure-footed and wholly original world that combines a winning blend of hilarity, charm and emotional, impactful moments.

“It will stand nicely alongside BBC3 stablemates Fleabag, Uncle, This Country and People Just Do Nothing as a sharp and naturalistic portrait of endearing characters with a unique comic voice.”
