BBC3 doc ventures into slums

BBC3 in the UK has commissioned five factual and current affairs documentaries aimed at younger audiences.

Produced by BBC Current Affairs, Slum Survivors (working title, 3×60′) follows a group of young people as they take a crash course in urban survival in some of the world’s biggest slums, in Lagos, Mumbai and Jakarta. The series is exec produced by Gian Quaglieni.

BBC3 has also greenlit The Holiday Park (wt, 2×60′), which follows the work of a young donor retrieval team and staff at Liverpool’s Tissue Bank. The show is made by True Stories and the commissioning editor is Tom McDonald.

Meanwhile, The Holiday Park (wt), produced by Discovery Communications-owned Betty TV, follows the owners and team behind 18-30s campsite Europa in Wollacombe, North Devon. The 3×60′ series was ordered by Sam Bickley, BBC head of commissioning for documentaries.

Other commissions include: The Real South Africa with Reggie Yates (wt, 3×60′), produced by Sundog Pictures, and Stacey Dooley in the USA (wt, 3×60′), produced by BBC Productions and Special Edition Films.

The shows were ordered by BBC3 controller Zai Bennett.
