BBC2, Lion craft Victorian House

BBC2 in the UK has ordered a four-part factual format that will transport six modern-day craftspeople back in time to revive a Victorian property.

The Victorian House of Arts & Crafts is from Lion Television Scotland and will air in early 2019.

The craftspeople will experience first-hand the ideas and practices of designers such as William Morris, John Ruskin and Gertrude Jekyll, members of the Arts and Crafts movement that was formed in protest against mass-produced goods.

The six participants will be cut off from 21st century life and will decorate and furnish four rooms, making everything from wallpaper to furniture from scratch.

Patrick Holland, channel controller at BBC2, said the idea worked for the network because “it does two things that are BBC2 at its best – revelling in the joy of making things and exploring our rich, shared past.”

The executive producers for Lion Television Scotland are Lisa Hazlehurst and Nick Catliff, while the series editor for Lion is Jeremy Daldry.
