BBC1 fixes up Repair Shop spin-off

The Repair Shop moved from BBC2 to an evening slot on BBC1

BBC1 in the UK has ordered a spin-off to its popular factual entertainment show The Repair Shop that will explore the stories behind historic heirlooms.

The Repair Shop: Fixing Britain (15×45′) will air during the day on the UK pubcaster’s flagship channel and is produced by Ricochet, part of Warner Bros Television Productions UK.

It comes after The Repair Shop, which sees heirlooms and treasured antiques restored to their former glories, recently moved to an evening slot on BBC1 having launched on BBC2 in 2017.

The spin-off will be narrated by the host of The Repair Shop, Jay Blades, and offer a unique insight into the history of some of the most cherished family heirlooms to have been restored in the barn, the BBC said.

Carla-Maria Lawson, head of BBC daytime and early peak, said: “The Repair Shop’s experts have taken us on an incredible journey from the past to the present through their painstaking and loving restorations. Throughout, we’ve learnt about some extraordinary items which hold a mirror to modern Britain and the way we live now, and this new series celebrates that.”
