BBC1 crowns King Gary

Tom Davis in King Gary

BBC1 in the UK has greenlit comedy King Gary for a six-part series following a successful pilot in 2018.

Endemol Shine-owned UK prodco Shiny Buttons Productions is working on the 6×60′ sitcom for the pubcaster following the pilot’s debut in December.

Created by the Bafta-winning team behind Murder in Successville, King Gary is written by Tom Davis and James De Frond. It stars Davis as Gary King and is directed by De Frond.

The series follows Gary and the love of his life, Terri (Laura Checkley), as they navigate family life in suburbia.

Shane Allen, controller of comedy commissioning for the BBC, said: “King Gary is big on laughs, big on heart and big on talent. Landing a mainstream family sitcom with a modern tone is a tough nut to crack, but these scripts are bursting with great lines and well-earned set pieces.”
