BBC seeks out Best Junior Doctors

BBC2 in the UK has commissioned a medical quizshow featuring doctors from the country’s National Health Service (NHS) as contestants.

Britain’s Best Junior Doctors (5×30′) is from ITV Studios-backed prodco Shiver and will pit students at teaching hospitals against each other.

Junior doctors will put their skills and knowledge to the test, with comedian and former mental health nurse Jo Brand hosting. The show will air this summer.

The order follows a raft of commissions for NHS-related programming from the BBC, as the service marks its 70th anniversary this year.

Richard Hastings, creative director at Shiver, said the show would “celebrate” the expertise of doctors “in a new and fun way whilst providing viewers with great medical and health takeout.”

It has been commissioned for BBC2 by Kate Phillips, controller of BBC entertainment commissioning, and commissioning editor Kalpna Patel-Knight.
