BBC proposes Toast to Bonham Carter

UK actress Helena Bonham Carter is to star in a new BBC television drama based on Toast, the memoir of food writer and chef Nigel Slater.

The actress will play Slater’s stepmother in the BBC1 drama, with Freddie Highmore, who played Charlie in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, taking the role of a 15-year-old Slater.

Ruby Film and Television is producing the series, which is being penned by Lee Hall, who adapted the film Billy Elliot.
