BBC orders thriller, Obesity doc

The BBC has ordered an eight-part drama from author and screenwriter Tom Rob Smith (Child 44, The Farm, London Spy) for BBC2 and factual programming for its online-only service BBC3.

MotherFatherSon is a political and psychological thriller that explores how a mighty empire can be in peril when a family turns on each other.

The 8×60’ series is set in London and produced by BBC Studios, with Alan Poul (Newsroom, Six Feet Under) attached to produce and Smith amongst the exec producers. It will shoot next year and air in 2018.

Patrick Holland, BBC2 channel editor, said the show “promises to be an exceptional series from an exceptional writer.”

Meanwhile, BBC3 has ordered a doc from UK-based 7 Wonder that takes viewers on a unique journey inside the human body to investigate the devastating impact of obesity.

Obesity – The Post Mortem (1×60’) reveals the fat inside our bodies and will feature pathologists performing a televised autopsy on a female donor who weighed nearly 17 stone.
