BBC dances off with Plimsoll travelogue

Strictly Come Dancing performer Oti Mabuse

UK pubcaster BBC1 has commissioned a travel special titled Oti’s South African Odyssey from Bristol-based indie Plimsoll Productions.

The 1×60’ special will follow professional dancer and Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse as she takes a road trip through her native South Africa, revisiting her childhood home as well as other family sites and interesting landscapes.

Richard Klein, head of documentaries UK and international at Plimsoll, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Oti and the BBC. It’s an opportunity to see South Africa through the eyes of someone who has a real understanding and personal insight into this diverse, fascinating and beautiful country.”

Oti’s South African Odyssey was commissioned by Kate Phillips, controller of BBC Entertainment, and Charlotte Moore, director of BBC Content. It will be executive produced by Plimsoll Productions’ Kate Beetham and commissioning editor Jo Wallace for the BBC.
