Myfanwy Moore took the position at the UK pubcaster in February 2014, joining from rival broadcaster ITV.

She will step down on February 19 to pursue new challenges.

“It’s been a privilege working with so many talented people on and off screen, at one of the best and most exciting broadcasters in the world,” she said.

BBC Studios’ controller of fiction and entertainment, Mark Freeland, and head of comedy production Sophie Taitt, will run the unit until a replacement is found. Moore will work alongside the pair to find a successor.

“With shows such as Tracey Ullman’s Show and Josh new on air, she’s shown what a comedy thoroughbred she is. I look forward to working with her again in the future,” Freeland said of Moore.

“Needless to say, comedy remains a huge strategic and creative priority for BBC Studios.”

While at the BBC, Moore also oversaw shows including Miranda, W1A and Mrs Brown’s Boys.

As commissioning editor of comedy at ITV, Moore was responsible for scripted series including the recently revived Birds of a Feather, Plebs and Vicious.

Before that she was editor of new comedy at the BBC until 2005 where she developed and produced Little Britain.
