BBC adapts Walliams’ latest

The BBC has commissioned an adaptation of a book by UK comedian and actor David Walliams about a cross-dressing 12-year-old, set to air this Christmas.

Boy in the Dress (1×60′) will air on BBC1 and tells the story of a boy who enjoys wearing women’s clothes.

The special will be adapted by Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley alongside Walliams, who is best known for co-creating and starring in comedy series Little Britain with Matt Lucas.

The UK pubcaster’s previous adaptations of Walliams’ books, Gangsta Granny and Mr Stink, have both aired during the festive season, attracting 7.3 million and seven million viewers respectively.

Shane Allen, BBC controller, comedy commissioning, described Boy in the Dress as a “very touching, hilarious and poignant story of why being different is something to celebrate.”

The special, a co-venture between King Bert Productions and BBC in-house Comedy, will be produced by Jo Sargent and exec produced by Mark Freeland.
