Banijay sets World Records deal

MIPCOM: Guinness World Records (GWR) is partnering show Banijay Group as part of an international sales drive for its self-titled primetime family entertainment format.

The year-long deal will cover 15 territories including the UK/Ireland, the US, Australia and Germany, with show Banijay pitching Guinness World Records to broadcasters and producing local versions.

The format has already been produced by Banijay Group’s Magnolia in Italy as five-part series La Notte Dei Record, which premiered on TV8 in 2018.

The studio format features attempts to break various records, with hopefuls going head-to-head in challenges as well as established record-holders vying to break their own world bests, all under the watchful eye of official GWR adjudicators.

The other territories covered by the deal with Banijay Group are New Zealand, France, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Belgium, the Netherlands and India.

The announcement was made by the two parties at Mipcom in Cannes today.
