Banijay returns to Temptation Island

Antena3’s version of Temptation Island

Banijay Group is preparing a US reboot of Temptation Island, the reality format that last aired on Fox in 2003.

A network has not been announced for the proposed revival, which follows UK network ITV2’s success with Love Island, another rebooted relationship show set in a tropical locale.

US website Deadline, however, has reported that USA Network is close to securing the rights to air the new version of the format.

Temptation Island sees unmarried couples living on an island along with single contestants who attempt to find new partners. It debuted on Fox in 2001, running for three seasons, and has been remade around the world including on Sky in the UK and Antena3 in Spain.

In related news, Banijay has also revealed plans to work with social media outfit Twitter to monetise the production group’s content and drive brand-engagement efforts. The deal will see the companies working with brands worldwide to develop co-branded advertising initiatives.

Jean-Patrick Cheylan, head of entertainment for EMEA at Twitter, said the deal “reinforces our unique position on the video market,” adding: “Twitter is what’s happening, and is the only platform for top global publishers to distribute, amplify and monetise their video content in the simplest and fairest way.”

Lionel Abbo, global head of digital at Banijay, added that the Twitter deal “puts us in a perfect position to not only monetise our content but work with brands to enable them to connect with a wider, yet more more targeted audience of consumers.”

Banijay is behind an array of programming formats including Survivor, Fort Boyard, Crystal Maze and All Against 1.
