Banijay picks up Thomas Markle doc

Thomas Markle: My Story airs on Channel 5 this evening

Distributor Banijay Rights has acquired international rights to a one-off documentary featuring Meghan Markle’s father, offering his account of their relationship and recent events.

Thomas Markle: My Story (1×90′) was made by Alaska TV for the UK’s Channel 5 and airs on the network this evening.

The doc promises an exclusive first-person perspective on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s recent decision to step down from royal duties, and events that led Mr Markle to become grandfather of a boy he has never met but is seventh in line to the throne.

The documentary, commissioned by Daniel Pearl (Leaving Neverland) and executive produced by Alaska TV’s MD Paul Sommers, also features never-before-seen archive of stills and videos of Meghan.

Banijay Rights commercial director for factual Andreas Lemos said: “This is first and foremost a stunning and poignant film from a father to his daughter, as she and her husband step down from royal duties, offering a unique insight into the decision that shocked the world.”

Alaska’s Sommers said the documentary “balances revelation and sensitivity, on such a global and topical current news story.”
