Banijay makes Touchdown deal on Moon

Apollo 8 The Mission That Changed the World

Banijay Rights has agreed a development deal with factual specialist Touchdown Films, with their first project set to explore the Apollo 8 space mission.

Touchdown, founded by filmmaker and producer John Osborne (Hillsborough Remembered, The Story of Skinhead), is working on one-off documentary Apollo 8: The Mission That Changed the World, about the first manned mission to orbit the Moon.

The show will mark the event’s 50th anniversary, which occurs in December, and will be an archive-driven doc directed by Osborne featuring interviews with key people involved in the mission.

As part of the first-look deal, Banijay and Touchdown are also working to develop and produce returnable factual series in the history, crime and celebrity genres and already have several projects in development with UK and US networks. Details are yet to be revealed.

Emily Elisha, head of factual at Banijay, said: “Working with Touchdown Films has given us a really exciting opportunity to develop programmes we believe will have broad international appeal – especially those linked to landmark events and anniversaries.”

Osborne added: “Our goal at Touchdown Films is to create factual television with global appeal and Banijay shares that ambition. Apollo 8: The Mission That Changed the World epitomises the kind of project that we’re looking forward to working on together.”
