Distributor Banijay Rights has picked up international rights, excluding France, Germany, Spain and Latin America, to a new Spanish drama.

Hierro (8×60’) is a Movistar+ original series coproduced by Portocabo, Atlantique Productions and Arte France. It was created by Pepe Coira and directed by Jorge Coira.

The crime thriller stars Spanish actress Candela Peña (Princesas, Torremolinos 73) and Darío Grandinetti (Wild Tales, Talk To Her) from Argentina. It is currently in production and will launch on Movistar+ in the first half of 2019.

The plot is set on Hierro, a secluded island in the Canary Islands archipelago, and explores the consequences when a man arrested for a brutal murder is released on bail.

It is the first Spanish-language drama in Banijay’s catalogue. Other shows on the firm’s fiction slate include Versailles, Wolf Creek and Occupied.
