Banijay embarks on Hunt For a Killer

Banijay Rights, distribution arm of France’s Banijay Group, has added two dramas to its 2020 offering.

Mikael Marcimain

The company has acquired the forthcoming Swedish true crime series The Hunt For a Killer (6×45), which was presented to prospective buyers at this week’s UK Screenings.

The series is set in southern Sweden in the late 1980s and revolves around the disappearance and subsequent murder of a 10-year-old girl.

The Hunt For a Killer follows the 16-year investigation into the murder and the determination of the local police force to solve the case.

The series is produced by Banijay-owned Swedish prodco Yellow Bird and Film i Skane for Swedish pubcaster SVT.

Marianne Gray and Stefan Baron are executive producing the project, with Helene Lindholm producing and writing alongside Lotta Erikson writing and Mikael Marcimain on board as director. The Hunt For a Killer is currently in post-production.

Belgian mystery crime series GR5: Into the Wilderness is also being offered by Banijay. The 8×50’ series centres on the disappearance of a young woman on Europe’s GR5 hiking trail.

Five years later, her father, close friends and ex-boyfriend set off to complete the same trail in her memory and to seek answers. The journey casts doubt on whether she was killed, committed suicide or is leaving cryptic clues behind.

GR5 is produced by Banijay-owned prodco Zodiak Belgium and Red Balloon alongside broadcasters VRT and ZDF Neo. Gert Goovaerts and Lynnsey Peeters wrote the series, with Barbara Van Poeck executive producing and Serge Bierset producing, while Jan Matthys directs.
