Golden Globe-winning cyber thriller Mr Robot is among the drama nominees

The Banff World Media Festival has unveiled the full list of nominees for its annual Rockie awards, which will honour content excellence in 22 categories.

With participation from more than 40 countries, the winners will be presented at the Program Competition Ceremony on Monday June 13 at the Fairmont Banff Springs-based festival.

This year’s awards will honour content in categories across drama, comedy, children’s, documentary, factual, digital and more.

In the drama series section, Universal Cable Productions’ US thriller Mr Robot will be up against Canadian drama Blue Moon and Ukraine’s Nezlamna (Battle for Sevastopol), as well as Canada’s Vikings, South Korea’s Jang Youngsil and Germany’s Tannbach.

Meanwhile, the comedy series category will see US favourite The Big Bang Theory take on fellow American series Silicon Valley, the UK’s Not Going Out, Canada’s Mon ex à moi (Dumped!), Israel’s Haverot (Little Mom) and Belgium’s Bevergem (The Natives).

“With the proliferation of television and digital content across today’s top global networks and platforms, it’s important to recognise the companies and creatives who are breaking the mould to execute some of the most captivating projects and that’s what we strive to do with the Rockie Awards,” said Ferne Cohen, executive director of the Banff World Media Festival.

“We look forward to announcing the winners at our annual celebration in June.”
