Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner’s UK- and LA-based prodco Bad Wolf is developing a drama series conceived by two former editors of fashion and lifestyle magazine British Vogue.

Gold Dust Nation comes from Alexandra Shulman and Fiona Golfar, who worked on British Vogue for 25 years, and will tell the story of the 1990s through the prism of a British monthly fashion magazine.

It will focus on the lives of a collection of characters working in the orbit of an internationally famous magazine in a pre-digital world, including photographers, stylists, journalists, PRs, hairdressers, designers and interns.

Tranter will act as executive producer for the series. Bad Wolf was recently behind Sky drama A Discovery of Witches and is currently filming the first of two seasons of Philip Pullman adaptation His Dark Materials for the BBC and HBO.

“We will be able to showcase the real issues and real stories that occur when you combine huge creativity with human emotions and dilemmas set against the backdrop of the changing times of recent history,” said Shulman.

Golfar added: “It is a show about love and loyalty, treachery and creativity, beauty and body image. Can these co-exist when there is so much at stake in the highly charged world of fashion magazines?”

“Alexandra and Fiona’s brilliance is that they have captured the mood of a country pivoting on its heel and heading for one on the most dynamic and contentious periods of British cultural and political history,” said Tranter.
