Backshall’s Expedition travels to China

BBC and UKTV adventure series Expedition with Steve Backshall

China’s Youku and Discovery are among a string of broadcasters to have acquired adventure series Expedition with Steve Backshall from distributor Fremantle.

The 10-part BBC and UKTV series, produced by True to Nature, will now air in more than 140 territories.

The show follows adventurer Backshall as he tackles a host of world firsts, including descent of a white-water river in the Himalayas, trekking through unexplored jungle in South America and climbing mountains in the deserts of the Middle East.

Aside from Discovery (Germany, pan-regional Asia and Latin America), and Youku, other buyers include France Télévisions, Movistar+ in Spain, BBC Earth in Africa and Canal+ Dokument in Poland. OSN and Al Jazeera have taken rights in the Middle East and North Africa.
