Asylum, Pilgrim team for sports doc

US prodcos Asylum Entertainment and Pilgrim Studios are teaming up for a factual series about the global impact of sport.

Initially titled Planet Sport, the docs will examine how sport shapes and reflects cultures, societies and communities throughout the world.

Each episode will focus on a universal sporting theme – glory, fear, rivalry, endurance and teamwork.

Legendary Entertainment-owned Asylum and Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Studios are coproducing the project with an award-winning production team including Steve Michaels, Jonathan Koch and David Michaels. Piligian and Legendary chairman and CEO Thomas Tull will also executive produce.

Piligian said: “This series will do for sports what series like Planet Earth did for nature – a sweeping, moving and beautiful depiction of something that unites us all because it’s so integral to the human experience.”
