Arte’s Piel signs up for Drama Summit

CONTENT LONDON: Alexandre Piel, deputy head of drama at Franco-German cultural broadcaster Arte, has joined the line-up for the International Drama Summit, part of Content London, which takes place from November 29 to December 1.

Piel will join a panel with international drama heads discussing Arte’s increasing international drama output. It recently revealed it was seeking to broaden its European coproduction footprint after the success of its first international copro, futuristic geo-political thriller Occupied.

Arte has previously acquired UK series such as Indian Summers, Wolf Hall and Peaky Blinders, and Australian series The Code.

Piel has held the number two fiction spot at Arte since 2013. Reporting to drama head Olivier Wotling and in charge of international, he oversees foreign series acquisitions, pre-buys and international copros.

He has also worked in drama sales and acquisitions for Zodiak Rights and held other roles at Télé Images/Marathon and France Televisions Distribution.

Piel is the latest drama chief to be announced as a speaker at the 2016 Summit. You can find other announced speakers here.
