Arrow Media options Cosby, Polanski books

UK factual prodco Arrow Media has optioned books on controversial Hollywood figures Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski for adaptation as documentaries.

Anna Davies

The London-based firm is developing Chasing Cosby: The Downfall of America’s Dad and The Girl: A Life in the Shadow of Roman Polanski into documentary series.

The author of Chasing Cosby, award-winning journalist Nicole Weisensee Egan, investigated the Cosby case, developing ties with entrenched sources and discovering incriminating details that would ultimately come to influence his prosecution.

In the book, Egan shares her first-hand account of Cosby’s 13-year run from justice. Arrow’s series will hear testimony from survivors and uncover the web of enablers, a key factor in Cosby being able to abuse women for many years.

The Girl: A Life in the Shadow of Roman Polanski is being developed in conjunction with Alan Handel from Handel Productions. The film sees Samantha Geimer, the woman at the centre of the Polanski sexual assault allegations, telling her story in full for the first time.

Anna Davies, exec producer, development at Arrow Media, said: “Both of these stories are ultimately about the abuse of power and the power of celebrity. Arrow Media’s reputation is built on getting exceptional access.

“From our award-winning feature film adaptation of the book Under the Wire, Paul Conroy’s untold story about his last, tragic assignment in Syria with Marie Colvin, to our ratings-winning Mind of a Monster feature doc strand for Investigation Discovery, we have a huge range of personal profiles to our credit.”
