Argonon, Cineflix exec set up JV

UK indie Argonon is setting up a joint venture factual prodco together with former Cineflix head of documentaries Nick Godwin.

BriteSpark Films will establish itself as a boutique production company with an international outlook, according to Argonon.

The move reunites Godwin with former Cineflix colleague Paul Heaney, who also exited the firm last year, launching his own business, TCB Rights, subsequently signing Argonon as its first client.

BriteSpark will be run out of Argonon’s London HQ and will work closely with TCB to pre-sell commissions internationally.

As head of docs at Cineflix, Godwin oversaw productions including Nazi Hunters, feature-length drama-doc Manson, Air Aces and Cold Blood for Investigation Discovery in the US.

Argonon also has offices in New York, Vancouver and Los Angeles and part of BriteSpark’s ambition is to draw on Godwin’s experience in these places to take a lead on international copros.

Argonon CEO James Burstall said Godwin’s insights would be “invaluable as we continue to develop our IP around the world.”

Godwin, who takes the title of BriteSpark creative director added: “My passion is creating compelling television, TV that gets people talking, with great characters and story-telling at its core; and this is what I hope to continue through BriteSpark Films. I look forward to delivering on our founding vision, by creating popular factual and high end specialist factual.”
