Apple TV+ tracks hurricane drama

John Ridley is best known for penning 12 Years a Slave’s screenplay

US tech giant Apple has commissioned a limited drama series about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina from Academy Award winner John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) for its Apple TV+ streaming service.

Five Days at Memorial sees Ridley team up with Emmy winner Carlton Cuse (Jack Ryan, Lost) and focuses on the first five days in a New Orleans hospital after the hurricane made landfall.

It is based on the non-fiction book of the same name from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sheri Fink and will air on Apple TV+ globally.

These include Mosquito Coast, starring Justin Theroux; Lisey’s Story, written and executive produced by Stephen King and starring Oscar winner Julianne Moore; and global series Shantaram and Pachinko.
