Apple TV+ links with Sendak Foundation

Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are

Apple TV+ has agreed a multi-year overall deal with The Maurice Sendak Foundation, which supports the artistic legacy of the late author and illustrator of Where the Wild Things Are.

Apple’s streaming service will create new animated specials and series based on the stories and pictures created by Sendak, who was also behind In the Night Kitchen, Outside Over There and Bumble-Ardy.

Sendak, who died aged 83 in 2012, is widely considered one of the most important children’s book artists of the 20th century.

“Though most know him through his iconic books, Sendak’s legacy also resides in theatre, film and TV, and this partnership with Apple will further the awareness of his unique genius,” said Lynn Caponera, president of not-for-profit charitable organisation The Maurice Sendak Foundation.

Arthur Yorinks, writer-director and long-time Sendak colleague, will oversee all Apple/Sendak projects through his Night Kitchen Studios.
